Buttermere is probably one of the Lake District’s prettiest locations. Surrounded by dairy pastures, Buttermere Lake sits one and a half miles long, three quarters of a mile wide and seventy five feet deep surrounded by heights such Haystacks, Robinson, Fleetwith Pike, Grasmoor and Red Pike. Haystacks was Alfred Wainwright's favourite place to walk and is where, at his own request, his ashes were scattered.
